Q:
What Is Non-Emergency Medical Transportation
A:
Non-emergency medical transportation is a type of medical transportation that is provided to people that need special medical attention. Most hospitals and skilled nursing facilities provide non-emergency medical transportation as a part of their services, but most non-emergency transport service is offered through private transport companies. A candidate for non-emergency medical transportation is someone who is medically stable, however still in need of medical support. For instance, a customer who had simply spent time in a medical facility may want non-emergency medical transports to their residences and future doctor's appointments.
Q:
How much advance notice do I need to provide before booking a transport?
A:
For best availability, please call at least 24 hours in advance. Long distance transports require 48 hours notice, if possible. For most local transports, we can be at your door within 2 to 3 hours of your phone call.
Q:
Can I travel in my own wheelchair?
A:
Yes, we customize our transports to meet your needs. You can also use your own manual or electric wheelchair. Also our vehicles are equipped with comfortable wheelchairs for your use free of charge.
Q:
Do you accept insurance?
A:
We accept insurance pre-authorizations with an approval number from the insurance provider. Pre-authorization requires 48 hours, so please call ahead. Please check with your insurance provider to verify your eligible benefits or call us for more information.
Q:
What forms of payment do you accept?
A:
Cash, Major Credit Cards, and Personal Checks (with proper identification). Payment is due at the time of transport unless other arrangements have been made in advance with MML Transportation.
Q:
What are your hours of operation?
A:
MML operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and holidays. You can call us day or night and speak to one of our professional and courteous customer service representatives. In addition, our drivers and vehicles are always available to serve all your transportation needs.
Q:
How much do you charge for transportation?
A:
Each trip is unique and our rates vary based on the type of service and distance travelled. We offer discounted rates for the first 10 miles. Please contact our office or complete a request form on the MML website, and we will provide you with an immediate quote.
Q:
Can my caregiver or a family member ride with me?
A:
Absolutely. We encourage this but do not require our customers to travel with a caregiver or family member. Please note, we do not charge for the first two passengers.
Q:
Will the driver take me inside? Will the driver stay with me during my appointment?
A:
Yes, our service is “bed to bed”…meaning our drivers are prepared to transfer you from your bed to a wheelchair or stretcher. Upon arrival, the driver will notify the appropriate personnel and ensure that you are “checked-in” for your appointment. If your return transport pick up time is unknown, your driver will provide you with an appointment card and request that you call us 30 minutes prior to the completion of your appointment. This process is in place to reduce your wait time. If the transport requires the driver to stay with the passenger for the duration of the appointment, please request this service when booking the transport so we can make the appropriate accommodations.
